Fear. Who’s afraid of (fill in the blank)?

Since this is Halloween I was thinking while sampling the candy meant for all the kids. fearAlmost everybody is scared of something. Ghosts, devils, zombies, the monthly cell phone bill. Some fears are pretty strange. Here’s my countdown of the strange.

  1. Cibophobia. This is one I wish I could get for a month or so. Cibophobia – fear of food. Maybe that commercial where the food slaps someone around is the reason someone would have this but it sure would help my waistline.
  2. Samhainophobia is the name of the phobia relating to the fear of Halloween. Is there an age limit on this one?
  3. Ablutophobia, or fear of bathing. I think I know some folks with this fear.
  4. Phobophobia is the name for the fear of fear itself. That is weird. Its like a circle or that infinity thing. Fear of fear – do you just stay under the covers?
  5. Now this one I also know people who have. I might even have it a little. Cenosillicaphobia is the fear of an empty beer glass.
  6. This one started in the 1950’s and it was those evil Ruskies fault. Keraunothnetophobia is the fear of falling satellites.
  7. Tacofobia – the fear of women with long blond hair. Not too much of a problem around here but in SoCal -whoa!
  8. The fear of Rock and Roll. Tell me no! NO! Thank goodness there is no name for the fear of Rock and Roll. The fear of music though, is called Melophobia.
  9. And of course there are the old stand-by, Coulrophobia, the fear of clowns. Maybe Stephen King caused this with “IT.”
  10. Last but not least especially at pronunciation or spelling and #1 in my book. Arachibutyrophobia. This is the fear of peanut butter sticking to the roof of your mouth. No! I did not make this up.
