GITMO – a look inside the wire

With all the fuss about closing the prison at Guantánamo I have posted a Pentagon film, Inside the Wire (24:34), just so you can see how it has been working.

This film addresses the living conditions and day-to-day operations without examining the bigger question of how long can or should a enemy combatant be held without a trial.

Certainly the Soviets, Chinese and North Koreans have held prisoners much longer without any real trial or chance of freedom. In WWII prisoners were held almost as long but they were clearly defined as “Prisoners of War.”

If our government had any fault with imprisoning enemy combatants, it was not bringing them to trial fast enough. Had they been tried, convicted and had the sentence of the military court carried out, the outcome would be much more acceptable.
